As some of you know, I’m a big advocate for participating in the Articulate Challenges over at the e-Learning Heroes forum. One of the challenges they have going is called #53Freebies. This weekly challenge is all about sharing things with others. In Week 4, I shared this custom Drag and Drop Coffee interaction. While creating the interaction, I ran into a problem with states that was a little frustrating at first because it kept me from completing my design idea.
In the animated below, you can see when the Drag item is dropped, it changes its state. If you drop it on a wrong drop zone, you’ll see an “x” appear over the coffee cup. If you drop it on the correct drop zone, you’ll see a checkmark appear.
When I started building the interaction, I thought the setup of the object states would be pretty straight-forward, much like it is with other buttons in Storyline. When I grouped the two items together (e.g., the coffee cup and the white rectangle) and started to create the additional states, the option was missing. Fortunately, the solution for getting around this obstacle is pretty simple.
If you want to see how I solved this problem, watch the short tutorial below.
