We’re just a few days away from our neighborhoods being filled with all those ghosts and ghouls. From a somber pagan ritual to costumes and parades with children and adults, we’ve come a long way over the years. A few days ago, I came across this really cool character from e-Learning Art called Taylor, or “Taylor the Devil” as he is called on the site, and decided I would see what I could come up with using Storyline 2, Camtasia 9 (yes it’s new!!) and, well, Taylor.
The idea was rather simple on this one. I started with Taylor in his devil costume and with Halloween just around the corner, decided a Halloween trivia/fact was in order. For this personal challenge, I tried to leave myself 1-2 hours from conception to completion. In this case, it took me 1 hour to complete. I did run into one problem that required me to put on my problem-solving hat and I’ll explain that in a moment.
The opening video was created using Camtasia 9 and inserted into Storyline 2 as an MP4. I used Camtasia’s Clip Speed feature to make it sound more “devilish”. I hope you enjoy the short joke I inserted into the opening! As they say in the eLearning business, humor is good but you never know if others will enjoy it as well.
Here’s where the problem appeared. After completing the video, I noticed how easy it was to use Camtasia to include a Closed Caption track. Unfortunately, after adding the CC track I published the final product to an MP4. When I did, it stripped the CC out. The solution? Capture the output using my previous version of Camtasia Recorder and then republish! Shaazam! I have a single MP4 video with captions included and no smart player.
Within Storyline, I created a trigger that automatically transitioned to the next slide once the video completed.
For the next slide, I set up four facts (using the term very loosely) about Halloween that I thought you might enjoy. The pumpkins used for each fact are animated gifs that I found here. The hand, obtained from e-Learning Art, was added to a Storyline 2 slider replacing the default slider button. It was tweaked to use the Glow shape effect in Storyline 2. For each fact, I included more animated gifs from here.
