Wow! I really love working with Articulate Storyline 360 and its new character set. In this week’s challenge, Design an Interaction to Simulate the Grocery Store Checkout Process #155, the goal was to build an interaction (in Storyline 2 or Storyline 360) that simulates the checkout process at a grocery or retail store.
For my submission this week, I wanted to do something a little different. Rather than use something like a grocery store or a jewelry store, I chose to create Agent 99’s Secret Spy Disguise Store. Agent 99’s store is run by his partner Helga. This store is a little different in that you must enter your secret spy name before you can start shopping. If you try to skip this process, Helga will not be pleased.
The store’s spy gear is in such high demand, Helga will limit you to one item from each spy category. In the store, you will find several cool spy gadgets like hats, moustaches, glasses, and wigs. Everything a spy going undercover will need! You might be wondering why I spelled the growth of hair above the lip “moustache” instead of “mustache”. It was just a little “tip of the hat” to my e-Learning peers across the pond. Here in the U.S., we spell it mustache.
When you are done, Helga will ask you to go through Agent 99’s Self-Checkout line to save time. Don’t worry, you won’t need any money. Agent 99 extends credit to every spy who comes into his store. Just remember, if you don’t pay within 30 days of making your purchase, things might go bad…really bad.
Here’s how self-checkout works in case you need it.
While checking out, you will be able to scan each item and see its price. Make sure you drop the item on the scanner and take a moment to double-check the item’s price on the register’s display. After you validate the item’s price, drag the item into your shopping bag. You will see your totals automatically adding up as each item goes in the bag, assuming you scanned it first!
If you try to bypass the scanning process and put an item into the bag directly, you might make Helga mad! Maybe you should try it just for fun?
I hope you enjoy the interactive self-checkout demo I created for you! From idea to publishing the demo, it took about 2 hours. 30 minutes to come up with an idea and 1 1/2 hours to bring it to life with Articulate Storyline 360 and variables. Lots of variables!!!
