Here’s a fun project a I created several months ago that fits perfectly into this week’s Articulate challenge which asks us to gamify an existing course, demo, or template.
The Original Project:
The original project was a simple quiz in Storyline 2 that focused on corporate terminology. Although it had some funny questions, it was still a little dry. Click the image below to see how this project started and then continue reading to see how I “gamified” this.
The Gamified Version:
According to those knowledgeable in gamification, to gamify something means to make it suspenseful, make it personal and make it rewarding! Well, I’m not sure I hit on all of those elements but I think this version of the quiz is a lot more fun in its new form.
I wanted the introduction to be something that was entertaining and provided a game-like feel. To achieve this goal, I needed to pick a character that screamed game show host! That’s where Chuck Roste (did you catch the play on words there?) comes in. Chuck is the ultimate hipster when it comes to corporate lingo. I added a pair of sunglasses to the character to really up his”cool factor”. Chuck is what you call a Natural Hipster. He is up to date on the latest trends and fads in the corporate world and knows the lingo. Who better to host the game show, right?
To personalize the game, I have the learner enter their name and select the type of hipster they think they are.
For each question, you can have the word used in a sentence before selecting your answer. I encourage you to take advantage of this option. It also utilizes the name variable entered at the beginning of the demo to “make it feel like Chuck is talking directly to you”. Turn on your speakers, click the image below and give this new “gamified” version a try. Let me know what you think in the comments below!
