This past week, I received Sahil Bloom’s Curiosity Chronicle Newsletter, which used the six blind men and the elephant parable to explain how we view the world and how our view represents only a tiny fraction of the information available. We can either recognize that and “cling to our notion of absolute truth” or “embrace a degree of humility about our views and open our mind to change.” Here’s a lighthearted look at the world of social media lately through this lens of thought!
Social Media: Keyboard Warrior vs. The Grand Expert of Everything
In one corner, we have the mighty Keyboard Warrior, armed with an arsenal of witty comebacks and an undying conviction that they hold the key to absolute truth! And in the other corner, we have the Grand Expert of Everything, a master of finger-pointing and a firm believer that their Google search history qualifies them as the ultimate judge of all things!
As the bell rings, the social media arena erupts into chaos! The Keyboard Warrior begins their tirade, hammering away at their keyboard with the precision of a concert pianist. They’re armed with memes, quotes, and the mightiest weapon of all—an opinion backed by countless likes and shares! Surely, this is the undeniable proof that they are right!
Meanwhile, the Grand Expert jumps into the ring, their fingers flying across the screen faster than the speed of light. They share links, articles, and Wikipedia pages galore, leaving no stone unturned in their quest to be crowned as the ruler of absolute knowledge!
As the battle rages on, a profound realization dawns upon our spectators. Each of them has their own champion in this clash of opinions. Some cheer for the Warrior, while others bow down to the Expert, fervently defending their side. But what they fail to see is that both contestants are trapped in a loop of self-assurance and digital validation, never truly considering the possibility of being wrong.
Ah, the irony! In this world of instant information and endless platforms, where opinions rain like confetti, we forget that sometimes, just sometimes, we might not have all the answers.
So, as you browse the vast social media expanse, remember to step back and question your own perspectives. Embrace the possibility that you may not hold the ultimate truth but that you can learn from others, even those with whom you disagree.
Let’s turn the battle of “Who’s Right and Who’s Wrong” into a dance of humility and open-mindedness. Let’s dare to challenge our own beliefs, seek understanding rather than victory, and recognize that the world is a colorful mosaic of diverse thoughts and experiences.
And who knows? In this grand journey of self-reflection, we may find that our own flaws and biases were the punchline all along.
Summing it Up
Social media has become so toxic lately that people’s ability to share and learn from each other has taken a back seat. While each blind man was so certain that their perception was the only truth, they eventually learned that we all possess different experiences and perspectives. We should always be aware that the truth is often much larger than what meets the eye.
I wholeheartedly acknowledge and respect that your viewpoint may differ, and that’s perfectly okay! Our diverse thoughts and ideas make this world such an intriguing place. Until the next post!
